Important: Windows 10 Support is Ending — Take Action Now!

Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. If you’re using Windows 10 on an NMSU device that connects to the university network, you must upgrade or replace your device to stay secure and compliant.

Who is impacted?

All faculty, staff, and student employees using computers that are owned by NMSU or are used to connect to NMSU network infrastructure.

What does this mean?

Microsoft will officially end support for the Windows 10 operating system on October 14, 2025. This means updates, security patches, and technical assistance for Windows 10 will no longer be available. As you prepare your FY2026 budget or plan for Fall semester expenses, you may need to include costs for replacing outdated devices.

What happens after October 14, 2025?

  • No More Updates: Microsoft will stop releasing security patches and updates.
  • Increased Security Risks: Windows 10 devices will be more vulnerable to cyberattacks.
  • No Technical Support: Microsoft will no longer provide assistance or troubleshooting.
  • Non-Compliance with NMSU Policy: Per NMSU ARP 15.75 , any networked device that is not operating with up-to-date critical operating system updates, may be disconnected from the network. Continuing to use an unsupported operating system violates this policy and poses a significant security threat to the campus network.

To keep the NMSU network secure, it is necessary to upgrade to Windows 11 or replace devices that can’t support it.

What you need to do

Upgrade Your Operating System:

If your device is already running Windows 11, no further action is needed on your part.  Otherwise, If your operating system is Windows 10 or before, plan to upgrade to Windows 11 as soon as possible.

Steps to Upgrade:

  1. Check if your hardware meets Windows 11 requirements.
  2. Follow instructions on Microsoft’s official Windows 11 upgrade page.

Replace Outdated Devices

If your device can not support Windows 11, it should be replaced to ensure security and compatibility.
