Equipment Rental FAQ

What changes have been made to the Equipment Rental process?

We are now only renting equipment by appointment (made on the appointment reservation form) and the appointment has to be made 24 hours in advance.

Example: If you want to rent a laptop on a Wednesday, a reservation form must be submitted on the Tuesday before at the earliest. 

Can I rent equipment by walking up to the rental office?

No, we will not be taking any walk-ins at this time due to COVID-19 concerns.

What kind of equipment is available?
The Student Technology Equipment Rental Program has laptops with chargers, digital cameras, iPads, calculators, action cameras, webcams, headset with mics and digital projectors with screens available to check-out.

How long can you rent equipment?

Most equipment can be rented weekly (7 days), monthly, or by semester. At this time, Projectors and digital cameras cannot be rented for a semester. Digital Cameras also cannot be rented on a monthly basis. 

Who is eligible to rent from the Equipment Rental Program?

Main Campus Students, DACC Students, and Faculty/Staff from NMSU main campus are eligible to rent with a valid driver’s license and NMSU student ID. Retired faculty/staff are also eligible for rental with a valid driver’s license and NMSU ID.

How do I pay to rent equipment?

We accept checks or money orders only. No cash, debit/credit card or use of your student account is accepted. Please make it payable to NMSU-TELE and no signature on the back of the check/money order is required.  Payment is due at the time of the rental.

Where is the Equipment Rental Program located?

We are located in the Hardman & Jacobs Undergraduate Learning Center (HJULC) room 103.

What are your hours?

We are open from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday during both Spring and Fall semesters and only accept rental checkouts by reservation. Our summer hours will vary and will be posted on our home page. We are also closed on Holidays.

How can I request equipment ahead of time?

You can make a reservation at Equipment Reservation/Return. Reservations are required to be made 24 hours in advance. Any reservations made less than 24 hours will not be guaranteed.

What software do the laptops have on them?

Students can also install software on the laptops. The Equipment Rental Program cannot install additional software for students prior to rental.

What happens if I return equipment late?

Equipment not returned on time will be subject to late fees. Our late fee is $10 a day. Once the equipment is more than 7 days late, the student will be responsible for the cost to replace the equipment.

How long does the rental process take?

It takes up to 10 minutes to complete the paperwork and for the renter to read the rental agreement.

How long can you hold my equipment reservation?

Equipment will be held for no longer than one week after the time requested.
